Lame Duck: Lame duck officials are in the peculiar position of not facing the consequences of their actions in the next election, meaning they are generally considered not accountable for their actions.
We don't even know what to say. Do we say that all elected officials are lame ducks? Or do we say that we citizens are the lame ducks, since we keep electing into office one rascal after another? Is anyone accountable to anyone these days? You can count on one thing. You can count on Barley's to deliver the finest beers day in and day out. And so it is with Barley's Lame Duck Imperial Pilsner. First it was Alexander's Russian Imperial Stout. Then it was a line of various Imperial IPAs. Now it's time to kick pilsners up a notch. Extreme trivia alert... Did you know that Budweiser starts out as an "imperial pilsner?" We were talking to a retired brewer from AB, who told us that all Budweisers are brewed double strength. The last step of their brewing process is --no surprise here-- to dilute it by adding the same volume of water as the base brew. Earlier in 2008, we were touring Seattle and parts thereabout, when we discovered a magnum of Imperial Budweiser. The shopkeeper wouldn't part with, and said that it is for display purposes only. Turns out that AB actually bottles the stuff every year for the holidays. The caveat is that it is made available only to select distributors and other AB friends. That's your trivia. When AB wants to celebrate, they drink double strength Bud. You can't get it, and neither can we. Enjoy Lame Duck Imperial Pilsner-- we make it available to everyone. |
